In this job, you’ll play a key role in helping SCE deliver successful Energy Efficiency (EE), Demand Response (DR), Codes & Standards (C&S), Building Electrification (BE), and Income Qualified Program (IQP) technology projects and incentive programs to our utility residential & commercial/industrial customers. Your skills will help us evaluate emerging technologies and to assist us in upgrading and operating our world class technology applied research laboratory. Your contributions will help us to reduce our customer’s energy costs, and to meet SCE’s long-term Pathway 2045 goals to help California achieve carbon neutrality. Responsibilities

  • Ensures technical issues and problems are resolved in a timely, efficient and cost-effective manner utilizing available resources
  • Supervises, leads, and coordinates work with full time and contract employees in the execution of new technical strategies, equipment or standards.
  • Conducts life cycle assessments for utility infrastructure materials and processes; improves preventive maintenance procedures to decrease overall downtime
  • Conducts risk assessments and implements risk mitigation strategies to ensure the safety and reliability of engineering projects
  • Supports audits and inspections; ensures compliance with relevant environmental, health, and safety regulations
  • Provides engineering and technical expertise and guidance for the identification, analysis and resolution of high impact, complex and/or cross-functional problems in engineering
  • Ensures the engineering facility design basis is controlled and design basis documentation is maintained
  • Conducts engineering and related studies with full technical responsibility for planning and coordinating high-impact complex projects
  • Provides support and technical training to junior engineering levels
  • A material job duty of all positions within the Company is ensuring the protection of all its physical, financial and cybersecurity assets, and properly accessing and managing private customer data, proprietary information, confidential medical records, and other types of highly sensitive information and data with the highest standards of conduct and integrity.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Bachelor's Degree in a scientific/technical/math field.
  • Five or more years of experience performing engineering work in operations, production, construction or maintenance environments.
  • Possess a valid Class C Driver's License.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Energy Systems, Environmental Science, Energy Engineering or related discipline); Professional Engineer (PE) license or advanced certifications (e.g., CEM, LEED AP) strongly preferred
  • PMP certified or relevant work experience project managing corporate initiatives
  • Demonstrated expertise in project engineering, including technical evaluation of emerging technologies, contract oversight, and quality assurance
  • Progressive engineering experience, with a strong track record in energy efficiency, demand response, building electrification, or related DSM programs
  • Broad knowledge of California energy policy, regulatory compliance (e.g., CPUC rules), and utility incentive program structures
  • Proven ability to lead complex market assessments, analyze cost-benefit scenarios, and align findings with strategic DSM and grid modernization goals
  • Advanced skills in reviewing and validating energy savings and demand reduction calculations using industry-standard methodologies and tools
  • Experience designing, installing, and operating laboratory test setups for evaluating innovative energy technologies; familiarity with lab safety and instrumentation best practices
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills, with experience publishing test reports and presenting findings to executive, regulatory, and external stakeholder audiences
  • Demonstrated leadership in mentoring junior engineers and providing technical guidance to cross-functional teams and third-party implementers
  • Track record of driving process improvements and developing tools, checklists, or procedures to enhance program delivery and customer experience
  • Proficiency with data analysis and modeling tools such as Excel, Python, MATLAB, or energy simulation software (e.g., EnergyPlus, eQUEST)

 

Additional Information 

  • This position’s work mode is hybrid. The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days.  Unless otherwise noted, employees are required to work and reside in the state of California.  Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage. The work mode can be changed based on business needs.
