Become an EMF Technical Specialist, Advisor at Southern California Edison (SCE) and build a better tomorrow. In this job, you’ll serve as a subject matter expert for electric and magnetic fields (EMF), acting as the trusted technical authority for customers, internal stakeholders, and regulators. In this role, you will lead EMF customer service operations and provide expert guidance through field measurements, interpretation of health research, and development of mitigation strategies to address complex and often sensitive EMF concerns. You will manage regulatory inquiries, CPUC complaints, and compliance documentation, ensuring adherence to EMF policy while protecting public trust and company credibility. By analyzing inquiry trends, supporting capital projects through Field Management Plans, and collaborating closely with Engineering, Legal, Consumer Affairs, and project teams, you will directly impact customer service, influence transmission and substation project design, and enable informed business decisions. Your independent technical judgment will have a meaningful impact on customer confidence, regulatory standing, and long‑term enterprise risk. Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with business stakeholders to define data requirements and translate business questions into analytical queries.
  • Develops new processes with the goals of increasing productivity, reducing risk of system failure, promoting efficiency in workflow, and meeting or exceeding key operational performance targets.
  • Updates and revises technical manuals based on policies and procedures, manufacturer information, industry standards and best practices.
  • Provides input into the definition and documentation of the technical delivery policy, process, standards and documentation templates, collaborating with the product development team on product design and upgrades.
  • Supports substation in creating goals for bill of material processing, setting monthly targets with support from transmission and distribution.
  • Delivers independent execution of established and emerging work processes and systems.
  • Communicates status of projects and studies, assists with planning and scheduling, and ensures alignment of communications initiatives to meet business unit goals and overall strategy, including consistency in tone, message, and approach.
  • Conducts data analysis to develop insights and identify trends from large datasets regarding substation package intake and processing.
  • Lead major projects that have major financial or operational impact to the operating unit and/or company. Performs in-depth analysis, develops recommendations, and provides consulting to address customer and/or Company problems/issues which cross organizational boundaries and require thorough technical knowledge to resolve.
  • A material job duty of all positions within the Company is ensuring the protection of all its physical, financial and cybersecurity assets, and properly accessing and managing private customer data, proprietary information, confidential medical records, and other types of highly sensitive information and data with the highest standards of conduct and integrity.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Seven or more years of experience providing technical support.
  • Experience in defining data requirements and building analytical queries.
  • Possess a valid Class C Driver's License.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Seven or more years working with EMF customer service performing customer consultations on EMF health research, interpreting epidemiological studies, and explaining technical analysis
  • Seven or more years working in the utility environment with a broad knowledge of building wiring, substation design and transmission construction
  • Demonstrate ability to troubleshoot and resolve wiring issues causing high magnetic fields. Experience working with electricians/lineman to troubleshoot wiring/system issues
  • Demonstrated ability to perform in depth analysis of electric and magnetic field research and findings
  • Knowledge of history of EMF health related studies

 

 

Additional Information

  • This position’s work mode is hybrid. The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days.  Unless otherwise noted, employees are required to work and reside in the state of California.  Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage. The work mode can be changed based on business needs.

  • Position will require up to 60% traveling and being out in the field throughout the SCE service territory.
  • This position has been identified as a NERC/CIP impacted position - Prior to being hired, the successful candidate must pass a Personnel Risk Assessment (PRA) or Background Investigation.  Once hired, the candidate must complete specified training prior to gaining un-escorted access to assigned work location and performing necessary job duties.
