Become a Planning, Principal Manager – Transmission & Telecom at Southern California Edison (SCE) and build a better tomorrow. In this role, you will be responsible for leading the Transmission & Telecommunications Design Planning organization across the service territory. This position oversees a geographically distributed team of approximately 100 SCE  employees and contract staff, with potential growth, responsible for planning, designing, and delivering sub‑transmission and telecommunications infrastructure work. This team supports a broad portfolio of work including new business customer requests, infrastructure relocations, maintenance programs, and capital execution. 

 

As a Principal Manager, you will drive performance across safety, quality, and productivity objectives while ensuring compliance with organizational standards, regulatory requirements, and auditable guidelines. You will partner closely with internal and external stakeholders—including Systems Planning Engineering, Transmission and Telecom Operations, IT, Project Management, Design and Field Asset Services, and telecommunications partners—to ensure work is effectively scoped, resourced, and transitioned from planning through execution.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees and manages planning leaders and teams who develop and implement the company's distribution, transmission or telecom design strategy and improvement initiatives.
  • Manages and coordinates activities to ensure project compliance with both external and internal standards, policies, rates, rules, as well as ensuring project operating dates and/or compliance due dates are actively monitored and met.
  • Partners with cross functional organizations to proactively address internal/external customer concerns and ensure consistent customer time frames and communication are established/maintained.
  • Develops and drives the company's planning strategy, communication, and consistency, while supporting performance management and resource forecasting.
  • Defines, measures and reports on key metrics aligned with the enterprise short-term and long-term business strategy.
  • Defines the scope and operational requirements for preparation of preliminary electrical and civil design including necessary permits, environmental requirements, and coordination for eventual construction. Drives safety culture, work environment and diversity, equity, and inclusion advancement.
  • Oversees the management of workloads to meet established timelines of contract preparation and planner design times.
  • A material job duty of all positions within the Company is ensuring the protection of all its physical, financial and cybersecurity assets, and properly accessing and managing private customer data, proprietary information, confidential medical records, and other types of highly sensitive information and data with the highest standards of conduct and integrity.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Seven or more years of experience supervising a team of direct reports and/or project management.
  • Experience in electrical utility distribution, transmission or telecom design or line construction.
  • Possess a valid Class C Driver's License.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Business, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience leading large, cross‑functional and geographically distributed organizations, ensuring compliance with safety, training, auditable guidelines, organizational standards, and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Proven leadership capability with a strong people‑first approach, including selecting, developing, and advancing employees, reviewing workforce forecasts, and proactively addressing talent gaps.
  • Experience overseeing employee and public safety, with a consistent track record of driving a strong safety culture while meeting operational and performance expectations.
  • Strong strategic and business leadership skills, including developing and implementing strategic plans with broad organizational impact and prioritizing critical initiatives in complex environments.
  • Experience applying project and program management techniques to manage interrelated work, including budget projections, scope definition, risk identification, mitigation, and delivery oversight.
  • Working knowledge of transmission and distribution, and/or telecommunications planning, design, engineering and construction environments sufficient to lead technical teams, partner effectively with stakeholders, and guide informed decision‑making.

Additional Information 

  • This position’s work mode is hybrid. The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days.  Unless otherwise noted, employees are required to work and reside in the state of California.  Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage. The work mode can be changed based on business needs
