Become a Senior Engineer 1, in the Substation Projects organization at Southern California Edison (SCE) and build a better tomorrow. In this job, you’ll be a part of the Substation Projects Metro East Orange Regional team responsible for technical/engineering efforts in support of substation projects, such as pre-scoping activities, while looking for synergies and opportunities for project cross-cutting to maximize value. Coordinating and performing technical analyses for distribution, sub-transmission, and transmission level projects, you’ll drive multiple aspects during project lifecycle to streamline and optimize SCE resources.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees engineers performing diagnostics, monitoring and inspecting equipment, and reviewing grid technologies, building relationships to facilitate cross-functional knowledge transfer of related work groups.
  • Leads the preparation of technical reports, presentations, and other documentation to communicate project status, findings, and recommendations to stakeholders.
  • Collaborates and leads with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless development, integration and implementation of future technologies and asset performance management strategies.
  • Assists in a variety of engineering and business initiatives and grid strategies, including development of innovative procedures and design recommendations.
  • Provides support for new equipment installation and startup, then leads the hand over processes to the ramp and sustaining phases.
  • Leads junior engineers in investigation of threats on the distribution system infrastructure based on observations and findings.
  • Gathers and correlates basic data using engineering studies and procedures, which may include routine and diagnostic testing of components and systems.
  • Facilitates training and professional development opportunities for engineering team members to enhance their skills and knowledge.
  • A material job duty of all positions within the Company is ensuring the protection of all its physical, financial and cybersecurity assets, and properly accessing and managing private customer data, proprietary information, confidential medical records, and other types of highly sensitive information and data with the highest standards of conduct and integrity.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Bachelor's Degree in a scientific/technical/math field.
  • Seven or more years of experience in engineering within operations, production, construction or maintenance environments.
  • Possess a valid Class C Driver's License.

 

Preferred Qualifications

 

  • Experience developing and delivering technical presentations to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Engineering experience related to modeling and performing power system analyses on distribution and transmission systems (i.e. 4 kV up to 500 kV).
  • Experience in utility industry, with focus in substation engineering and design, grid interconnection, power system infrastructure related to substations and/or design of those facilities.
  • Experience in project management, including strategic planning, budgeting, and execution of large-scale projects.
  • Experience using AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Design Raster.

 

Additional Information

 

  • This position’s work mode is hybrid. The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days.  Unless otherwise noted, employees are required to work and reside in the state of California.  Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage. The work mode can be changed based on business needs.
