Become a Senior Energy Trader at Southern California Edison (SCE) and build a better tomorrow. In this job, you’ll lead SCE’s power and natural gas hedging program through execution and management of short and intermediate-term transactions of energy, natural gas, and/or emissions products and associated derivatives including options, swaps and futures. The successful candidate will have deep knowledge of multiple commodity markets and experience working in a customer cost-focused, compliance-driven environment.

Responsibilities

  • Manages and executes utilities financial transactions such as swaps and options, ensuring full compliance with the company's hedging and optimization programs.
  • Communicates wholesale power market economics and daily analysis related to market fundamentals, trading, hedging and optimization strategies across the renewable energy portfolio.
  • Ensures purchasing/selling forecast and volume information is reviewed on a regular basis, and directly reflects the requirements of customers for each product.
  • Maintains and communicates view of energy supply/demand fundamentals and geopolitical factors influencing US and global energy prices.
  • Monitors actively the traded position for each product and seeks to maximize customer potential value, at all times, in accordance with the agreed strategy.
  • Presents trading reports and updates to the governance panels and customer meetings as required.
  • Maintains long-term market relationships across multiple categories of customers including public and private utilities, corporate buyers and government procuring entities.
  • Supports and provides coverage for other functions within Trading as needed.
  • A material job duty of all positions within the Company is ensuring the protection of all its physical, financial and cybersecurity assets, and properly accessing and managing private customer data, proprietary information, confidential medical records, and other types of highly sensitive information and data with the highest standards of conduct and integrity.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ten or more years of experience in commercial or market-facing roles within Trading, Origination, Energy Planning and Analysis and/or related fields. 

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Engineering, Economics, Finance, Business or other related disciplines.
  • Experience with the operating rules and regulatory requirements of California energy and emissions markets, including knowledge of CAISO, CPUC, FERC, and CARB.
  • Experience performing complex analysis of supply and demand conditions in electric, natural gas, and emissions markets.
  • Experience successfully developing and obtaining senior and executive level management approval of trading strategies and proposals.
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams in solving complex problems and performing analyses of new core business solutions.
  • Demonstrated effective resource and project planning, decision making, results delivery, team building, and the ability to stay current with relevant technology and innovation.

 

 

Additional Information 

  • This position’s work mode is hybrid. The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days.  Unless otherwise noted, employees are required to work and reside in the state of California.  Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage. The work mode can be changed based on business needs.
