In this job, you’ll be part of a team responsible for managing SCE’s diverse fleet of renewable & conventional generation, intertie, and demand side resources while ensuring least cost dispatch and regulatory compliance in a dynamic 24 x 7 operational environment. As the Energy Trading Scheduling, Specialist – Realtime Operator, you will work rotating 12 hour shifts and perform all scheduling coordinator functions in the California Independent System Operator’s (CAISO) wholesale power market and the CAISO regional Energy Imbalance Market (EIM).    You will also be responsible for purchasing and selling energy and transmission as needed to serve our customer’s energy needs.

Responsibilities

  • Aids in managing and tracking energy imbalances and/or storage balances relative to contractual terms
  • Ensures correct and accurate nomination of traded positions with trading counterparts
  • Supports preparing daily analysis emails to inform traders of cash positions and market trends
  • Maintains transaction-specific information into company scheduling systems
  • Collaborates with traders to manage physical inventory positions and recommends trade activity based on interactions with third parties
  • Handles audits and requests for information from state regulatory agencies, trade organizations and others with respect to customer demand data, energy prices, and supply contract information
  • Monitor SCE's portfolio of generation, load, intertie, energy storage, and demand response resources and take action to ensure reliable operation
  • Receive, approve, submit, and handle outages and derates throughout their entire lifecycle
  • Analyzes data and produce regular reports for the energy trading team
  • Respond to CAISO directives and requests for information and submit bids and schedules as needed
  • A material job duty of all positions within the Company is ensuring the protection of all its physical, financial and cybersecurity assets, and properly accessing and managing private customer data, proprietary information, confidential medical records, and other types of highly sensitive information and data with the highest standards of conduct and integrity.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Three or more years of experience creating and reviewing contracts.
  • Experience in plant operations, wholesale energy or commodities markets.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • NERC System Operator Certification
  • Experience acting as a Scheduling Coordinator in CAISO or other balancing area with ability to follow standardized instructions and procedures such as tariffs, business process manuals, NERC operating procedures, and internal operating processes while utilizing the full suite of BA software applications such as ADS, SIBR, CMRI, BSAP, OMS, and CIDI.
  • Experience with generation dispatching, energy scheduling, energy trading, transmission purchasing, and e-tags via software, telephone, radio, computer and internet-based systems.
  • Experience with the Microsoft Office Suite of products with strong emphasis in Excel.
  • Experience with control system software such as SCADA, EMS, or GMS.
  • Experience with real time trading and a track record of solid decision-making in the real time market.
  • Ability to perform effectively as part of a team as well as independently in an environment with frequent workload, process, procedure, and system changes.
  • Able to handle simultaneous activities and establish priorities to meet operational and compliance requirements while retaining the operational awareness to adjust priorities as circumstances determine.
  • Able to analyze & interpret operational data, exercise discernment, draw conclusions and take action even when the data are incomplete or ambiguous.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills including the ability to formulate and communicate operational directives and maintain a written log of all significant activities.
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with clients, peers, management, support staff, and vendors to successfully meet department objectives.

  • This position’s work mode is on-site. The employee will report to an SCE facility or in the field location.  Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage. The work mode can be changed based on business needs.
