Become a Grid SCADA Historian Specialist at Southern California Edison (SCE) and build a better tomorrow. In this job, you’ll be part of a team responsible for maintaining some of the most critical applications across the company. You will be responsible for supporting the Distribution Aveva Pi Historian. This system is a near real-time data management platform that collects, stores, and visualizes data from industrial processes and equipment across the electric grid. In this job, you will support situational awareness and critical analytics for SCE’s distribution system.

 

TYPICAL RESPONSIBILTIES INCLUDE: 

 

  • Translate business needs into operationally supportable designs.
  • Plan and execute both structured and unstructured testing.
  • Develop PI analytics and reporting to meet Transmission & Distribution (T&D) client requirements.
  • Collaborate with clients, IT teams, and vendors to support the operation and maintenance of the existing PI Historian system.
  • Maintain and enhance scripts supporting the GridMS PI Historian environment.
  • Ensure all deliverables comply with SCE standards, including regulatory and cybersecurity requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Provides operations support, troubleshooting, integration testing and user training. Performs technical analysis to define grid application requirements and updates.
  • Monitors and analyzes energy usage data to identify trends, anomalies, and opportunities for optimization.
  • Supports the testing and implementation of new grid application releases.
  • Identifies trends and root causes of issues, determines solutions, and makes recommendations for management consideration.
  • Updates, monitors and maintains the reliability of the grid application advance apps, and control application.
  • Identifies and implements actions plans to prevent future system issues.
  • Configures and modifies grid application databases and ensures that all telemetry and controls are available and accurate.
  • Provides engineering support to grid operations by resolving complex issues via implementation of state-of- the art and new technologies.
  • Updates, monitors project KPIs and maintains power system modeling, state estimator, contingency analysis and power flow analysis supporting real-time operations.
  • A material job duty of all positions within the Company is ensuring the protection of all its physical, financial and cybersecurity assets, and properly accessing and managing private customer data, proprietary information, confidential medical records, and other types of highly sensitive information and data with the highest standards of conduct and integrity.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Three or more years of experience in designing, building, implementing, maintaining, and supporting complex utility, real-time or enterprise systems, or as a user of a utility grid application.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant IT or engineering experience focused on data or analytics solutions.
  • Experience implementing or administering AVEVEI PI Systems, including its architecture and change management process.
  • Development and scripting experience with shell scripts, .NET, and C#
  • Experience with SCADA systems.
  • Background in data analysis and report development.
  • Experience with SQL.

 

 

Additional Information 

  • This position’s work mode is hybrid. The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days.  Unless otherwise noted, employees are required to work and reside in the state of California.  Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage. The work mode can be changed based on business needs.

  • This position has been identified as a NERC/CIP impacted position - Prior to being hired, the successful candidate must pass a Personnel Risk Assessment (PRA) or Background Investigation.  Once hired, the candidate must complete specified training prior to gaining un-escorted access to assigned work location and performing necessary job duties.
  • This position has an option for a 9/80 Alternate Work Schedule or 40hrs/5 days a week.
  • Relocation does not apply to this position.
