In this job, you’ll provide technical knowledge for critical outage management project work defining the future of Grid Management.  Your technical understanding will help ensure our team’s success.  You will also leverage your skills and experience to solve technical issues with our next generation outage and grid solutions.  As part of the IT team that brings these core capabilities to our T&D organization, you will make a true difference in the planning, delivery, and operational support of our Outage Management technologies.

 

SCE’s OMS provides critical planned and unplanned outage information to our Transmission & Distribution Organization as well as our Customer Service Organization. The system allows identification and management of outages from initial incidents through restoration and feeds analytical data to several outage-related systems.

Responsibilities

  • Provides operations support, troubleshooting, integration testing and user training
  • Performs technical analysis to define grid application requirements and updates
  • Monitors and analyzes energy usage data to identify trends, anomalies, and opportunities for optimization
  • Supports the testing and implementation of new grid application releases
  • Identifies trends and root causes of issues, determines solutions, and makes recommendations for management consideration
  • Updates, monitors and maintains the reliability of the grid application advance apps, and control application
  • Identifies and implements actions plans to prevent future system issues
  • Configures and modifies grid application databases and ensure that all telemetry and controls are available and accurate
  • Provides engineering support to grid operations by resolving complex issues via implementation of state-of-the art and new technologies
  • Updates, monitors project KPIs and maintains power system modeling, state estimator, contingency analysis and power flow analysis supporting real-time operations
  • A material job duty of all positions within the Company is ensuring the protection of all its physical, financial and cybersecurity assets, and properly accessing and managing private customer data, proprietary information, confidential medical records, and other types of highly sensitive information and data with the highest standards of conduct and integrity.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Three or more years of experience in designing, building, implementing, maintaining, and supporting complex Utility, Realtime or Enterprise systems  - OR -
    Three or more years of experience as a user of a Utility grid application

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Transmission and Distribution networks, SCADA and control systems.
  • Three or more years of experience working with and/or supporting an electric utility Outage Management System.
  • Possesses proficient analytical skills to troubleshoot complex problems related to real-time systems.
  • Capability to create and execute shell script and/or Python.
  • Proficient with SQL queries and reporting tools and platforms.
  • Experience performing data analysis, development of business reporting.
  • Strong coordination and communication skills to support working with cross-functional teams and vendors to achieve success in project activities.
  • Experience with Kubernetes and Jenkins.

 

 

Additional Information 

  • This position’s work mode is hybrid. The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days.  Unless otherwise noted, employees are required to work and reside in the state of California.  Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage. The work mode can be changed based on business needs.
  • This position includes providing phone and occasional on-site technical support related to troubleshooting and resolving moderate to highly complex system issues.  OMS is supported 24/7, 365 through after-hours on-call that this position will participate in through weekly rotation.

  • The primary work location for this position is Santa Ana, CA. However, the successful candidate may also be asked to work for an extended amount of time at an alternate work location.
  • Position will require up to 5% traveling and being out in the field throughout the SCE service territory. 
  • This position has been identified as a NERC/CIP impacted position - Prior to being hired, the successful candidate must pass a Personnel Risk Assessment (PRA) or Background Investigation.  Once hired, the candidate must complete specified training prior to gaining un-escorted access to assigned work location and performing necessary job duties.
  • This position has an option for a 9/80 Alternate Work Schedule or 40hrs/5 days a week.
  • Relocation does not apply to this position.
