In this job, you will perform maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and testing of specialized tools and equipment used by field crews across Transmission, Distribution, and Substation operations. Your work will directly support crews performing critical construction, maintenance, and emergency restoration activities throughout SCE's service territory. As a Tool Repairer, your work will help power our planet, reduce carbon emissions and create cleaner air for everyone. Responsibilities 

  • Diagnose, repair, and refurbish a variety of utility tools, equipment, and accessories. 

  • Disassemble, inspect, repair, replace components, reassemble, and performance test equipment. 

  • Perform repairs on electric, hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, and gasoline-powered equipment. 

  • Read and interpret repair manuals, schematics, blueprints, specifications, and technical instructions. 

  • Utilize hand tools, power tools, precision measuring instruments, diagnostic equipment, and shop machinery. 

  • Conduct preventive maintenance and operational testing to ensure equipment performance and compliance. 

  • Perform semi-skilled machining, fabrication, welding, and metalworking activities related to equipment repairs. 

  • Assist with field repairs and overhaul activities at operational and service locations as required. 

  • Maintain accurate repair records and equipment maintenance documentation. 

  • Support and mentor personnel assisting with repair work while promoting safe work practices. 

  • A material job duty of all positions within the Company is ensuring the protection of all its physical, financial and cybersecurity assets, and properly accessing and managing private customer data, proprietary information, confidential medical records, and other types of highly sensitive information and data with the highest standards of conduct and integrity. 

 

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Ability to diagnose equipment malfunctions and perform repairs independently. 

  • Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, shop equipment, and testing instruments. 

  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents, repair procedures, blueprints, and schematics. 

  • Possess a valid Class C Driver's License. 

 

 

 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills. 

  • Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems. 

  • Ability to identify root causes of equipment failures and implement effective repairs. 

  • Commitment to safety, operational excellence, and quality workmanship. 

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team. 

  • Strong communication and customer service skills. 

  • Ability to prioritize work and support operational needs in a fast-paced environment. 

  • Experience operating machine shop equipment including lathes, drill presses, grinders, and milling machines. 

  • Knowledge of bearings, gears, seals, valves, pumps, motors, cylinders, and power transmission systems. 

  • Experience with computerized diagnostic tools and equipment management systems. 

  • Trade school, vocational training, military mechanical experience, or recognized apprenticeship program completion. 

  • Utility, construction, mining, agriculture, transportation, or industrial maintenance experience. 

  • Off-Highway equipment repair (for example Caterpillar or John deer) and/or Automotive background with ASE certifications 

 

Additional Information  

  • This position’s work mode is on-site. The employee will report to an SCE facility or in the field location.  Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage. The work mode can be changed based on business needs.

  • This position requires testing and applicants who are identified to continue through the selection process will be invited to test via email. Reference our Information Guides for the following tests:  Tool & Equipment Repairer Test (Test #2609).  Candidates who have previously passed these assessment(s), in some cases, may not need to retest again for this position.
